Skyping with fifth graders

Today we Skyped with 5th graders about some questions they had on providing their information over the web. it was really cool to see them and hear them ask their quesitons. This meets the standard 4a which states: Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices. Teachers:

a. advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources.

Classroom 2.0

Last class we signed up to be members of Classroom 2.0. I had never heard of it before and am very excited about my access to it now! I think it is/will be a great resource for ideas to incorporate technology into my classroom as an elementary teacher. I found a discussion about ways to use the smartboard in a classroom and how to involve students and teach them about technology through it. This meets ISTE standard 5a which says: teachers will participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning. I will be able to communicate with teachers all over with the same issues/questions that I have and we can give each other advice and feedback.

Resume Assignment

One of our recent assignments has been to create a resume on google docs. I have used google docs before to make powerpoints, etc but never a resume. The program is a really great way for new users to learn how to create documents, and to work in groups. The ISTE Net standard that this activity meets is 1B: engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources. We used google docs as a digital tool and resource to create these resumes that we could use in the future.

Day One: Jan 19

On the first day of class we set up blogs. This was very new to me and I am still figuring it all out, but it met the ISTE Standard 3B, which says: "Teachers collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation." By setting up these blogs we are able to communicate with our classmates and instructor about readings, assignments, etc. In the future as we learn to use these blogs and further our knowlege of digital tools we will meet more of the ISTE Standards.
